Gone Too Soon

Two days ago we lost one of our beloved pets to cancer...A black cat by the name of Salem. We named him that when we first found him because...well, aren't all black cats named Salem? Or Shadow? Or Inky? Or something stereotypical?

What we should have named him was "Guvna"(you know like, "Allo Guvna!") He was something. He was probably one of the friendliest cats I have ever had- and I've had 19 through my lifetime so far.

He sauntered out from under the huge blue spruce in our yard one night 8 years ago as we packed our car to leave for vacation. Two weeks later upon our return he was sleeping on the lawn chair in the same place he was when we left! His short life (for our cats, 8 is very short) was one that made us laugh. He never missed an opportunity to get all the attention possible. He will be missed terribly by we three humans and his "siblings" Aggie, Seamus and especially his best brother Crayola who, is lost without him.

In a day or so, he will go back under that blue spruce from where he came and he will be in good company with all our other fur-coated family members . It is a spot that is a hub of activity for birds, squirrels, rabbits and even a deer or two sometimes. Salem spent day after day watching the action out the picture window that faces it and I think he would have chosen the same spot to rest.
